Thailand's Constitutional Court ruled yesterday (1st) to suspend Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from her duties, citing a phone conversation of hers with Cambodia's former leader Hun Sen that allegedly violated constitutional ethical standards. The court has given Paetongtarn 15 days to present her defense. After the ethics investigation is completed, a decision will be made on whether to permanently remove her from the premiership. While the Paetongtarn case is not directly related to Thailand's casino legislation, Thai media reported that the comprehensive resort bill, which was originally scheduled for formal deliberation in the House of Representatives on July 9, will be postponed by about a month.
