The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) expressed deep sorrow over the No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po yesterday (26th), extending their heartfelt condolences to the deceased and sincere sympathies to the injured and affected families. The HKMA and the HKAB are maintaining close contact to ensure the industry provides maximum support to citizens affected by the incident.

The HKMA and the HKAB appeal to the banking industry to exercise discretion in handling cases of affected individuals due to the current situation. Banks are encouraged to provide flexible support, including assisting affected individuals in withdrawing cash, prioritizing and expediting the reissuance of banking documents, offering deferred repayment grace periods, waiving penalty interest and fees, and increasing staff in the Tai Po district to ensure timely and appropriate services.
